Organizations & Clubs

Service Organizations, Activity Clubs, Special Events


All-School Play
In the fall of the school year, each student has the opportunity to participate in the All School Play.  This dramatical event is a highlight of the school year.
Art Club
Art Club meets once a month during Wednesday activity period.  Special projects are chosen and planned to enhance the aesthetics of school and community, such as wall murals, special gift projects, and decorations for holidays.
 
Bowling Club
is open to all students who enjoy bowling. Students can letter in this club. Meets and practices are weekdays after school.

Campus Ministry
Campus Ministry consists of approximately fifty seniors who are willing to be leaders and positive role models for younger students in the areas of liturgical worship, retreat planning and facilitation and service projects.  Campus Ministry members attend a three-day leadership training retreat during the summer before their senior year.  The retreat focuses on prayer-service planning, listening skills and small group leadership skills as well as bonding of the Campus Ministry group.  During the school year Campus Ministry members meet approximately twice monthly before the school day begins.

Chess Club
Chess Club is one of the most popular activities here at Springs.  Students compete locally at a variety of competitions, and also within the school.  A knowledge of the game is not necessary, and beginning players will be coached.

Forensics
Forensics is open to students interested in preparing for competition in expository and extemporaneous speaking, play reading and story telling.  Students participate in forensics meets and practice times vary.
 
Investment Club
The Investment Club is a new club that students will compete nationally in the $1,000,000 Challenge.

Key Club
Key Club is an international high school organization sponsored by Kiwanis International.  The organization is dedicated to service to others.  Not only does Key Club help the elderly and handicapped, but its members participate in many school and community events such as pancake dinners, Special Olympics and the annual Key Club convention.  All students are eligible to be members.

Math Club
Participants of the Math Club learn strategies that enable them to be better prepared for most standardized tests (PLAN< PSAT, ACT, etc).  Interscholastic competition provides any interested student the opportunity to use mathematical background and intuition to solve problems in a competitive format.  
 
Music Liturgy Group
The Music Liturgy Choir consists of a group of students who simply love to sing. A great voice is not required.... just a love of music. During the 2000-2001 school year, the Choir had over 165 members, who either sang in the choir or accompanied the choir in an instrumental ensemble. The Choir meets one or two Wednesdays per month, and sings at all school liturgies, National Honor Society Induction, Benefactor Recognition and Graduation.  There are a number of off campus events that the Music Liturgy Choir also participates in.

One People. One World. International club is open to anyone to inspire awareness to different cultures.

Spanish Club
The primary purpose of the Spanish Club is to prepare students for bi-annual trips to Spain.  Every-other year students enrolled in Spanish classes are invited to travel to Spain and live with a host family for a period of approximately two weeks.  The Spanish Club prepares these students for the cultural and ethnic differences between the United States and Spain.

Spring Musical
Combined with the All School Play produced during the fall of the school, the Spring Musical provides students the opportunity to participate in a musical drama production.  Tryouts are held for roles in the fall of the year, and all students are invited to participate.

Student Ambassadors
Student Ambassadors is an organization consisting of junior and senior students who are interested in promoting a positive image of St. Mary's Springs High School.  Students are selected for participation through an application process, and these students then assist the Director of Admissions in recruiting prospective students.  The Student Ambassadors assist the Director with a variety of events including school visits, Showcase Night and Sneak Preview Day as well as compiling mailings, writing letters and making phone calls to prospective Springers.

Student Council
The Student Council consists of its four officers and four class officers from each of the four classes (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior).  Other members of the student council include homeroom representatives, and one representative from each school club or activity.  The major responsibility of the Student Council is the magazine subscription drive held in the fall of the school year.  The student council also sponsors a variety of events and activities during the course of the school year. 

Student Newspaper
Student Newspaper is open to all students interested in the writing and publication of bi-monthly issues of "The Ledger".  With the help of a faculty advisor, students write, type and edit stories, take pictures, do artwork, layout pages and find advertisers.  Staff meets before school to initiate scheduling and deadlines.

Yearbook
The Yearbook staff produces the "Maryledge" with the help of a faculty advisor.  Students prepare the copy, take pictures, layout the pages, find advertisers and sell yearbooks.  Staff meetings and times for doing the section prep are before or after school based on the deadlines for specific sections.  New members are always welcome!
