Physical Science

Physical Science is a course designed for those students interested in the study of both chemistry and physics. Chemistry topics include: atomic structure, the periodic table, writing formulas, chemical equations, and an introduction to organic chemistry. Topics in the area of physics include: mechanics, heat, light, sound and an introduction to electricity and magnetism. This course includes a strong laboratory component and students are required to submit laboratory reports. |
Biology

This laboratory oriented course focuses on topics related to living things such as: zoology, genetics, botany, taxonomy, microbiology and cellular structure and function. This course provides a strong base for other biological sciences a student may encounter in further education. |
Botany And Zoology

This laboratory course deals with the biology of plants and animals. Topics covered include taxonomy (classification), macro and microscopic structures, the physiology of plants and animals and the ecological role of plants and animals will also be discussed. Dissection is required.

Principles of Genetics And Biotechnology

This laboratory course deals with the structure and function of DNA and the role of genes in heredity. The course also examines how humans are using biotechnology to manipulate and change the natural process of the flow of genetic information. The risks and benefits of the use of biotechnology will be discussed. |
Anatomy And Physiology

This course acquaints the students with the structure and function of the human body. The major body systems are covered: integumentary, muscular, skeletal, digestive, circulatory, nervous, respiratory, reproductive, endocrine and urinary. A variety of laboratory activities are provided including dissection. This one semester course is designed for students interested in pursuing careers in the allied health services. |
Chemistry

Chemistry is the study of matter, its composition, the changes it undergoes and its relationship with energy. This course assists students in developing critical thinking and problem solving skills that can be used not only in Chemistry but also in everyday life. Topics studied include atomic structure and electron configuration, chemical formulas and reactions, stoichiometry, gases and solutions, acid-base reactions, and organic and biochemistry. The experiments performed in the laboratory are considered to be an essential component of this course. This course is especially recommended for college bound students. |

Physics

Physics is the study of the relationships between matter and energy. These relationships include the study of mechanics, heat, light, sound, electricity and magnetism. Selected topics in laser optics, solid state devices, relativity and basic electronics are introduced to the student. Problem solving techniques as well as concept development is utilized in this course. A background in Physics is imperative for the student pursuing a career in the sciences or health fields and is a must for any student curious about the physics universe in which we live. The laboratory component is vital to the study of physics and all students are required to submit laboratory reports. |
College Physics

Science Seminar

The course involves a science project which includes a written report, entry in area science fairs, and oral examination by the science faculty. The purpose of the course is to challenge the student to do extraordinary science study. |
Laboratory Assistant

This course is designed to allow students to experience science from a practical standpoint. The student is involved with preparing chemicals for use in the lab, maintaining organisms, preparing laboratory activities and demonstrations, and doing science-related activities. Enrollment is limited. |
