Learning Resource Center
St. Mary’s Springs High School has established a philosophy and a mission statement to provide educational goals and directions for all of its students. In order for students who learn differently to achieve to their potential, the Learning Resource Center ( LRC ) was created. The role of the LRC for SMSHS is to support students with disabilities or those experiencing academic deficiencies to reinforce the content of the regular education classes. Given the range of individual student abilities and skills, it must be recognized that the LRC cannot be all things to all people.
The LRC program offers identified students a structured learning environment, tutorial assistance, and study skills instruction. Referrals are initiated in one of five ways: 1) by the student, 2) by the parent, 3) by the teacher, 4) by guidance counselor, and 5) by the administration.
The following criteria will be used to determine inclusion into the Learning Resource Center:
1. A current IEP from the public school setting.
2. A history of individualized learning as revealed from a file review.
3. An Explore test score of 13 or lower or a score of 13 with history of learning failure; usually taken as an 8th grader.
4. A parent request for inclusion based on the needs of the student.
If a student has been referred, and the criteria are in question, a conference of Principal, Guidance Counselor, LRC instructor and/or other Teachers will be scheduled to discuss an appropriate placement of the student.
