The members of the Counseling staff at St. Mary’s Springs High School believe that one of the most unique functions of their work is the development of a special helping relationship with students and that the primary role of the counselor in this relationship is to act as an advocate for the student.Secondarily, the counselors will also act as diplomats, negotiators, information processors, and persuaders in the student-parent-teacher-administrator relationships.
Springs’ counselors believe in the inherent dignity and capability of each individual student and will seek ways to nurture, encourage, and support the development of each student’s academic, spiritual, social, emotional, physical, and vocational goals.
Whenever possible, counselors will assume a proactive stance in anticipating the needs of others and will work diligently to seek solutions in issues directly affecting students in school, at home, and in the community. In other circumstances, counselors will be responsible and thorough in addressing concerns brought to them.
Members of the Counseling staff believe in contributing to the Christian and Catholic atmosphere at St. Mary’s Springs High School and in modeling values, behaviors, and beliefs consistent with being Christian and Catholic.
